PF Changs, Pizza, a Lost Tooth and Broken Promises

I've been a little self conscious about taking pictures and doing food reviews lately because I'm getting even more super fat and lazy. "Alexa, order me a pizza!" (I got an Alexa for myself and it's pretty awesome)

It's also really hard to lose weight when your boss takes you out to eat. My philosophy has always been that free food trumps diets and unlimited pizza trumps common sense.

We ate at PF Changs yesterday and it wasn't good despite the amount of food I ate.

On top of that, my wife is really into saving the environment and she's got these cool metal straws. Of course the first time I  use one I knock out a tooth! Ridiculous!

Luckily one of our clients is one of the best dentists in Los Angeles and was able to fix me up really fast. Dr. Paz from Atlantic Dental Group is amazing and has some of the most affordable dental implants in California.

On top of the low prices, he made a deal with me to give me a discount if we made a video of one of his procedures. I'm really thankful for Dr. Paz and his staff. Here's a pic from our adventure:

I hope to be getting back to blogging as the new year rolls around and I start making some more resolutions that I won't keep. I really am going to try to keep them this time!

Potrero Canyon Buffet Review at Morongo Casino

On special Mondays when my wife works late and Ronan is at his grandma's, I get to pig out by myself and eat whatever I want. I usually go the quick and greasy route and gorge myself on a family pack of supermarket fried chicken but today was different. Today I felt like a little treat because I've been working hard lately.

Morongo Casino is less than 15 minutes away and I decided that I would give myself a decadent Vegas style experience by going to the Potrero Canyon Buffet. I've always loved their seafood and prime rib Sundays but today was their more affordable Mexican Monday lineup.

Enjoying a dinner fit for the King of the North

I felt kind of weird going to Morongo by myself and eating alone but I had the craving and couldn't fight it. After finishing the Game of Thrones season 6 finale last night, I needed a meal fit for a king.

Mexican Mondays at Morongo Casino Buffet
Pork Tenderloin, Turkey with Gravy, Orange Chicken, Cheese Bread, and Menudo. Whoa.

This was my first plate. It was quite an odd combination but if you know me you know I always have to try the Menudo no matter where I am. A lot of people are turned off by it but there's something about the chewy lining of a cow's stomach that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

The pork and turkey were good as well. The sweat and sour pork was much better than the orange chicken though. The star of the plate was the freshly baked jalapeno cheese bread. It was soft, warm, salty, and spicy with a slightly crispy cheese crust. It was exceptional.

Chicken Colorado, Carne Asada, Stuffed Sole, Coconut Shrimp, and Roast Beef with Au Jus

My second plate packed a protein punch. The roast beef with au jus was quite tasty but the real winner was the stuffed sole. It was flavorful, flaky, and buttery. It melted in my mouth and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I finished my meal fit for a Targaryen with a few choice morsles from Potrero's large selection of desserts. My favorite was the chocolate covered cream puff. I was so full that I had to move up a belt buckle hole to fit every last bit in.

The service at Potrero Canyon Buffet was really good. The servers were very nice and I never had empty plates stacked up on my table. I was very happy with the way I was served.

I've actually done a review of the Morongo Buffet here before about 5 years ago. Read about it here: Morongo Buffet Review

I'm really glad to live near such a cool place and definitely will come back more often. I might even bring my family this time!

Pho Star Bowl - Avocado Smoothie

I had brought a salad to work but the people in my office decided to go to Pho Star Bowl, a Vietnamese restaurant, near our work. I wanted to just stay in office and watch Youtube videos of goats screaming and cry into my salad but they forced me to go with them.

I told myself that I wouldn't get anything but I ended up ordering an Avocado smoothie with boba. Unfortunately they didn't have boba which is kind of funny because they advertise that they have boba so I just got the smoothie part.

The picture in the menu of the drink was bright green but when she gave it to me it was a beige which was kind of weird. I know the green color doesn't really mean anything but it was visually less appealing. The smoothie itself was quite good because it wasn't too sweet and had a really creamy texture. There's not much of an avocado taste but there's a hint of it.

It reminded me of when I was a kid and my parents mashed up avocados with milk and sugar in a bowl and we ate it like pudding.

The worst part of ordering just a drink at a restaurant is listening to the people next to you make slurping and chewing noises. Oh well. Healthy and cheap are my new mottos.
